Reader's Annotation:
What does it mean to live each day like it is your last? Agustus and Hazel are about to find out.

Plot Summary:
Hazel has cancer. She lives her life with the help of an oxygen tank and spends a lot of time in and out of the hospital, but she is still alive at 16 and wants to come out of her parent's wings a bit. She meets Augustus at a support group meeting. He is beautiful, kind and a little funny. Their mutual friend Ian has cancer as well. Augustus is in remission and ready to take on the world.

The two share a love of reading and bond over a couple books. As time progresses, they fall in love, travel the world and share many firsts together. Augustus shows his love by taking Hazel across the world to meet her favorite author which turns out to be a disaster. These two show us that no matter what stage in life you are in, there is always time to enjoy life.

Critical Evaluation:
John Green has created a moving book that stays with the reader long after the last page. This book is very well written and each of the characters come alive to the reader. Even minor characters such as Ian are developed with enough personality that they are memorable. Green has created a romance of souls not just of two teenage kids. They way be wrote about their experiences led the reader to feel sucked into the story along with the characters.

The twist in the end of the book is heartbreaking and breathtaking all at the same time. The descriptions make the images come to life even in the saddest moments of this book. Green took a story that could have been filled with despair and turned it into a story of strength and survival.

About the Author:
John Green is a New York Times best selling author. He has written four novels and co-wrote one. He likes to write about current issues and emotions teens are going though. In 2006 he won the Michael L Pintz Award and in 2009 he won the Edgar Award.

John Green and his brother decided to start a video blog to talk to one another instead of any other form of communication. They gathered a following called the nerdfighters. Nerdfighters strive to increase the level of awareness and knowledge in the world. Because of this, Green is known as a technological advocate and his followers raised 100,000 dollars in 2010 to fight hunger. He also tweets often on Twitter to advocate changing the world one day at a time. His website has many links to his video blog and other sites he participates in.

Book Talking:
Create your own ending to The Fault in Our Stars.

Challenging Issues:
If this book were to be challenged, I would go through the selection process with the challenger as well as explain the rationale for the book. There are many good qualities in this book that could be reason to have it in a collection.

Why Read this Book:
This book shows that even when the end is near, loving and living are what really matters in life. The two lovers find understanding and joy in each other which pulls them out of the depths of despair. This is a truly uplifting story of the strength each of us has in our core.
