About the Album and Artist:
Carrie Underwood began her career as the winner of American Idol in 2005 and has since become an American icon. She has sold 14 million albums and has had 14 number one singles. She co writes a lot of her music and truly believes in what she does. Underwood grew up on a farm and her country roots show in her music as well as the way she speaks. She has released four different albums with Blown Away being the latest one.

She has been excited to release this album and feels it is her most ambitious one yet. Underwood grew up in Oklahoma and enjoys many different types of music. She partnered with Steven Tyler in 2012 on CMT's Crossroads. This inspired her to make music differently. She does not want to be stuck into one genre and so she strives to branch out and challenge herself.

Critical Evaluation:
Blown Away has a vast variety of emotional songs in it. There are songs to empower, to make one cry and so create a sense of change. There is a good mix of slower and faster songs as well as a good mix of sounds. Some of her previous albums have had songs that sounded similar, but this album changes constantly and the listener feels as though they are being transported by her stories. Each song has a story in it and when the listener pays attention, they can connect with at least one of the songs.

Challenging Issues:
If this album were to be challenged, I would go through the selection process with the challenger as well as explain the rationale for the music. There are many good qualities in this album that could be reason to have it in a collection.

Why Listen:
Carrie Underwood is extremely talented in a world where many voices are computer generated. She is a strong woman with something to say. Her music breaks boundaries and is innovative.
