About ESPN Magazine and Critical Evaluation:
ESPN magazine was created to give fans an insider look at the stars of the sports world. The articles are about different players and their lives. The magazine is formatted with many different advertisements with fewer articles. Many of the articles have charts and statistics in them so it is not a very taxing read. The reading level of this magazine is not very high, but there is a lot of information covered in the articles.

ESPN is famous for the big beautiful photographs accompanying each of their articles. Because of this, readers are able to see their favorite athletes in action. Each magazine covers basketball, football, baseball and hockey. It covers professionals as well as college players.

About the Author:
ESPN is a multi-million dollar empire. They have cable channels, an interactive website and a magazine. There are also mobile applications for smart phones. This company started in 1979 by  Bill Rasmussen. He wanted to create a network where people could share stories about athletics. In 1996 Disney bought ESPN and therefore the advertising and formatting changed.

The company started with television and radio then expanded to a magazine in 1998. The website is now one of the most utilized resource of the company.

Challenging Issues:
If this magazine were to be challenged, I would go through the selection process with the challenger as well as explain the rationale for the magazine. There are many good qualities in this publication that could be reason to have it in a collection.

Why Read this:
This is a good magazine for teens because it has articles teens are interested in, but also has a lot of pictures. Reluctant readers will still enjoy this magazine because of this. It is full of facts about the starts as well as information about the games.
