About Seventeen Magazine and Critical Evaluation:
Seventeen magazine is a colorful and bright magazine for high school girls. Each issue is split into sections. There are seven different sections spanning the life of a teenage girl. The fashion section covers the fashions for each of the seasons and activities of those seasons. Beauty focuses on makeup, hair and skin care. The health section covers physical activities and healthy foods. The love life section is all about flirting, dating and finding ones love. Your life and your weekend concern what real teens are doing. Sometimes there is a serious story and sometimes they are pleasant. There is also a letter to the editor in every issue.

This magazine is not very well written and the articles do not delve deep into many issues, but it is full of information teen girls want to know. Seventeen magazine is appealing to the eye because of its layout and design. Each page is jam packed with pictures, writing and statistics. There are quizzes and games which keep teenage girls interested.

About the Author:
Seventeen magazine was started in 1944 and has grown into an empire. It is read by many teens and strives to be a guide for life. It has grown from just a magazine detailing what to do in the home and in life to talking about the latest in fashion, life, and careers. The Seventeen website has many different resources referenced in the magazine quite a bit and it has just as much color and design as the magazine. Seventeen magazine has been influential for fashion designers and models around the world and is published in several countries globally.

Challenging Issues:
If this magazine were to be challenged, I would go through the selection process with the challenger as well as explain the rationale for the magazine. There are many good qualities in this publication that could be reason to have it in a collection.

Why Read this:
This magazine is a guide for life. There may not always be the best advice in it, but there is enough in it to give girls a foundation to grow on. This magazine is part of a cultural phenomenon so I decided it needed to be added to this collection.
